Synopsis: In 2017, the U.S. solar market installed 10.6 gigawatts direct current (GWdc) of solar photovoltaic (PV) capacity. Despite installing 30% less solar than what was installed in a unique and record-breaking 2016 that coincided with the year the federal Investment Tax Credit (ITC) had been set to expire, the market still exceeded 2015 levels by 40%. In line with previous years, 59% of the installed capacity came from the utility PV segment, while distributed solar accounted for 41% of installations.
